Susan Worland is a Bay Area violinist and fiddler, expert in many styles of music. As a classical violinist, she plays in the Santa Cruz Symphony and teaches at Starland Music, in Alameda. She is renowned for her expertise in Scottish dance music, and has played for dances and workshops on both coasts and in Canada. Susan serves as Music Director for Red Thistle Dancers and Red Thistle Music.

If she had to pick a favorite style of music, though, her greatest love is for the traditional music of central Europe (Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Czech and Slovak Republics) with a special love for the music of the border between southern Poland and the former Czechoslovakia. Susan has toured many times as a musician with Polish dance groups, including festivals throughout the United States and Canada, and in France, Portugal, Mexico, Brazil, and China.

She is the director of the California Kapela, a band which plays at the Stockton Folk Dance Camp, where she performs with the Roma musician Rumen Sali Shopov, among others.

Susan is married to Michael Bentley, a bodhran player, and they frequently play together for Scottish dancing. When not fiddling, she also enjoys dancing, reading, and especially cooking.
